Meet Your Instructor:
Rick Casler, an avid local hobbyist, artist, and instructor will be the host for all the painting seminar courses offered at this year’s Crucible Orlando Event. Rick has been hosting painting seminar for the past few years at Crucible and has covered topics ranging from edge highlighting, color theory, to advanced areas such as non-metallic metal. He has won multiple awards at the local, national, and international stage and is the proprietor of Firestorm Miniatures and Painting. He looks forward to seeing you at this year’s event and in one of the many seminar classes offered.
Paint and Take!
Each visitor to the convention will have the opportunity to visit the paint and take table. Each person will be able to paint a finely crafted, pre-primed pewter miniature from Firelock Games’ Blood and Plunder Miniatures line. Participants may use his or her own paints or the entire paint range provided by The Army Painter. This event will be on a first-come, first-serve basis and will run the entire weekend. The paint and take section will be closed during the seminar class hours.
The Buzzed Brush
Saturday 10pm until late
2019 is the inaugural year of the Buzzed Brush. This event is a late-night adults-only event which combines a friendly drinking environment, paints, and miniatures in addition to a little competition. Participants will be painting a miniature provided by Firelock Games and with paints provided by The Army Painter. Contestants will have to navigate his or her libations, the host’s antics, some lighthearted ribbing, and last-minute arbitrary color changes. At the end of the event, the models will be judged, and the winner will take home the 2019 Buzzy Award! Must be 21 or older with a valid ID to participate. This event is BYOB (booze and/or brush). The event is on Saturday night from 930pm until late.
Let me see your True-metallic colors.
Time: Friday Evening from 7pm until 10-11pm
This is a 3-4 hour class on Friday evening/ night where participants will be introduced to painting in the style or true-metallics. This class will cover lighting, reflectivity, shadow as they apply to dull, bright, and reflective metallic surfaces. Participants will be practicing techniques on a Warhammer Age of Sigmar Stormcast Eternal miniature. Paints and brushes will be available courtesy of The Army Painter line. If participants have his or her favorite brush or paint line, they are encouraged to bring them to practice with. Seats will be limited to allow for adequate instruction/ interaction.
Speed Source Lighting and Technique Super-session
Time: Saturday from 10am until 1pm
This course is designed to introduce attendees to basic lighting as it applies to miniature painting as well as different techniques such as free-hand designs, painting on flat surfaces, feathering, and wet-blending. Participants are encouraged to bring his or her own brushes and/or wet palette to practice on. There will also be paints, brushes, and materials to make a wet palette for use during the course.
Paint and Plunder
Time Sunday 10 AM to 4 PM
This course will run throughout the day on Sunday from 10 am until 4pm. Participants will be painting a Blood and Plunder Miniature provided by Firelock Games. We will cover topics such as shading/ glazing. Layering, faces and flesh as well as how to achieve contrast with a limited color palette. Participants will be painting with paints from Citadel and The Army Painter. This class will build upon the other courses throughout the weekend or may be taken as a stand-alone class. There will be a break for lunch. Participants may wish to bring his/ her own brushes and paints.
The Forge Master Painting Competition
Time Saturday registration must be complete before 3pm. Models will remain on display through the end of day Saturday. Awards will be announced at 630pm. Each participant my enter up to one entry per category. The overall Best-in-Show will be awarded the mighty Forgemaster’s Hammer.

Fantasy Monster/ War machine/ Large Model – Can be a large model with a base larger than 40mm, vehicle, building, or even a giant machine of war.
Steampunk Single Miniature – Single steampunk related mini on a base no larger than 40mm
Steampunk Unit/ squad – A single unit of no more than 10 models on bases up to 40mm each
Steampunk Monster/ Vehicle/ Large Model – Can be a large model with a base larger than 40mm, vehicle, building, etc.
Historical Single Miniature – Single Historical related mini on a base no larger than 40mm
Historical Unit/ squad – A single unit of no more than 10 models on bases up to 40mm each
